Simple Bread
A simple loaf of bread.
Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups (about 650 ml) of warm water
- 8 cups flour, either white or half white, half whole-wheat
- Two packets of dried yeast.
- 3 tbsp (about 45 ml) of sugar or malt extract
- A bit less than a tablespoon (about 10 ml) of salt (optional)
- Vegetable oil
Directions
- Mix warm water and yeast in a bowl, let sit 5-10 minutes (it should froth up).
- Add in flour, sugar, and salt.
- Knead on a breaded counter until gluten develops (10 minutes?).
- Put the dough back into the bowl, cover with a wet towl, and let rise until doubled (about an hour).
- Punch the dough down. Cut into two, and form into loaves. Put the loaves on baking pans and allow to rise until doubled again (an hour).
- Bake at 375F for 35-40 minutes.
